REVIVE & THRIVE
If it doesn't work FOR YOU, then it's time to repair it, replace it, or remove it. Remodeling can be fun. And, remodeling with Universal Design in mind, makes your living space, a more inviting place for everyone.
Living Room
Before
White walls and restrictive window coverings caused glare and lack of light control. Even with the glare, it felt gloomy - less than ideal for gatherings of family and friends.
After
In addition to uplifting colors, lights were added to the overhead fan. Dimmable wall sconces and remote-controlled, fabric-slatted and sheered window shades provide far more light control in an aesthetically pleasing, welcoming environment.
Before
A large whirlpool tub consumed much of the master bath space. It was removed, making way for a roll in shower. There were dark cabinets under the sink blocking access to it for someone in a wheelchair. White walls were stark against the dark cabinets and reflected glare for someone using the mirror.
After
In addition to the aesthetically pleasing roll-in shower, the cabinet under the sink was removed allowing access for a chair. Traditional towel bars were replaced with pivoting rods, completely open on one end, that can easily be accessed and moved in multiple configurations. The towel rods as well as clothes hooks are all positioned at accessible height from a chair.
Master Bath
Kitchen
Before
The small U-shaped kitchen had only one narrow access because the far wall abutted an entry closet. There was little maneuverability for a wheel chair, scooter, or walker. White walls magnified the harsh glare from task lights.
After
The entry closet kitchen wall was completely eliminated, creating a far more spacious island kitchen. The cooktop is induction, the oven is a combination convection and microwave saving the space of having two ovens, the dishwasher is a Fisher & Paykel single drawer design for easier access at waist height, the faucet is touch-sensitive making it easier to turn on and off with minimal reach. Cupboards are replaced with drawers, eliminating opening doors into yourself and stretching to reach back shelf items.
